My Mother Wants Me Dead - Single

“my mother wants me dead”, like many of her other songs, are about her drug use. Here, it also centers around paranoia. It’s ironic because she loves her mother very much and vice versa, to the point her stage name is her mother’s name. Carolesdaughter, often stylized in lowercase as carolesdaughter, is the musical project of singer, songwriter, and influencer Thea Taylor, originally from Oceanside, CA. She gained popularity through social media app TikTok for her distinct fashion and makeup style, and her piercings and tattoos. Her debut single, Too Fast, a collaboration with Dog, was released exclusively to SoundCloud in May 2020. Throughout the next few months, she would continue to post songs to SoundCloud, taking influence from Emo Rap and Cloud Rap. This eventually lead to the release of Violent on the 23rd of November, her 18th birthday. Violent, which she wrote following drug addiction, mental health issues, and multiple trips to rehab, remains her most popular song to date, having over 200 million streams on Spotify alone. It also marks when she decided to take her interest in music more seriously, and actively pursue a career in it. Following the release of Violent, she shifted toward a less rap-oriented Pop Punk sound, with 2021 singles Trailer Trash, Please Put Me in a Medically Induced Coma, and My Mother Wants Me Dead. These singles, which featured an honest look at her time in rehab and in high school, were then featured on her debut EP, Please Put Me in a Medically Induced Coma, released in April 2022.
