Hail Mary
iwrestledabearonce is an American band from Shreveport, Louisiana that utilizes a variety of genres and musical influences. They are generally categorized as metalcore, experimental metal, avant-garde metal and mathcore; the band's music is considered as diverse, due to their use of frequent genre changes within songs, varying between jazz, progressive metal, electro, synthpop, and grindcore. The band attempts to evade categorization so significantly that they focus on blending as many genres as possible. Their song structures are known for chaotic changes in pace, varying between blast beats, breakdowns and then contrasted rapidly by melodic, lounged-out interludes in the middle of their songs. Influences for their musical style have come from a wide variety of bands including The Dillinger Escape Plan, Radiohead, and Björk. Björk, particularly, was noted as being an inspiration for former vocalist Krysta Cameron's sung vocals. Since their formation in 2007, they've released one self-titled EP within the same year via Tragic Hero Records and two full-length albums, It's All Happening and Ruining It for Everybody, in 2009 and 2011 respectively, via Century Media. It's All Happening was re-issued June 29, 2010 in a deluxe edition featuring a bonus remix CD and a DVD containing the promo videos for See You in Shell and You Ain't No Family, the stems of Tastes Like Kevin Bacon and You Ain't No Family for use with remixing, and more. During Warped Tour 2012, it was announced that vocalist Krysta Cameron had become pregnant and would have to leave the band for the rest of the tour. She was replaced by friend Courtney LaPlante of Unicron for the remainder of the tour. However, bassist Mike Martin stated that same summer that Cameron would be permanently replaced by LaPlante. As of January 24, 2013 the band is writing music for their third studio album with LaPlante on vocals. Their fourth album, Hail Mary, was released on June 16, 2015 via Artery Recordings. Due to the label being acquired by Warner Bros. Records on August 31, 2017, this would prove to be the band's one and only release via the label. Following uncertainty of the band's status along with LaPlante's and Stringer's position in Iwrestledabearonce following the unveiling of their new project, LaPlante confirmed during an Instagram live video session via her private account that she is no longer a member of Iwresltedabearonce, and also doesn't know if the band will continue on as they have not released an official statement affirming their position. In an interview with Loudwire in July 2019, she explained that her and her husband Mike Stringer's leaving was due to them being worn down by their status as replacement people (referring to how neither of them are original members) and their desire not to stagnate and to do something different. LaPlante and Stringer both currently perform in a new group called Spiritbox. Final lineup: Steven Bradley (lead guitar, keyboards, samples, programming) Mikey Montgomery (drums, backing vocals) Mike Rickshaw Martin (bass) Former members: Krysta Cameron (vocals) Courtney LaPlante (vocals) Brian Dozier (bass) Ryan Pearson (drums) Dave Branch (bass) Mim Cameron (guitar) Mike Stringer (guitar) Daniel Andrews (keyboards, samples, programming) Read more on Last.fm.
