Картонка
"Картонка" (pronounced 'car-tone-kah') - a piece of cardboard - the word is commonly used to name a certain short-lived emo band that emerged from the Moscow scene in late 90's. "Картонка" is notorious for being arguably the first emo band to have appeared in Russia. "Картонка's" biography is shrouded with mystery. In all the years of the band's existence they managed to throw only 2 live shows (in 1998 and 1999 respectively), using a different name for the band each time (one of many, for example: An Owl's Stare From Around The Corner, Pearl Harbor, And He Set The World On Fire etc.). The band featured a rotating cast of members, with drummer Mihalych and Bubbs the bass-player being the only two permanent members throughout the band's history. "Картонка's " lyrics were heavily politically-charged, the members had previously taken part in various activities like the 'Food Not Bombs'-themed event. There had also been efforts of running an independent record label - "Mega-Profit Productions" by the band's members, but to no avail. Long after "Картонка's" demise a tape was found with 4 of the band's tracks on it. Sadly enough the tape was in such a terrible condition, only one track ("Город") could be salvaged from it. The fate of most of the band's members is unknown, but it has come to our knowledge, that Bubbs went on to join the hip-hop act "Кровосток" as their DJ. Read more on Last.fm.
