Buntspecht

Buntspecht (German for Great spotted woodpecker), founded in 2016, made a name for themselves with performances beyond their hometown of Vienna. They made their first recordings themselves in an improvised studio in a garden shed and released them on the Phat Penguin Records label. With their debut album, Großteils Kleinigkeiten, they attracted a lot of attention in 2018 and this was followed by performances in some cities in Germany, among others. The second album Draußen im Kopf followed in 2019, which was also self-directed, but under more professional conditions. They made it into the top 10 of the Austrian album charts. Their music has been described as indie pop with influences from gypsy swing, bossa nova, Wienerlied and folk.
