1. Stene - Swedish Country, Americana style artist ---------------------------------------------------- Stene, was born in Stockholm in 1968 and consequently grew up with the music of the 70’s. Early influences were coming from his parents radio and stereo in the form of Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Cat Stevens that was constantly played. During the summer of ‘73 Stene experienced a turn of tide as he heard Sweets song Ballroom Blitz. “It was a totally different sound! Every time the song was played I was there stuck to the radio!” says Stene. During his teenage, Stene played in various garage bands both as a drummer and as a singer. His first band played Reggae and Punk. At the time bands like Dag Vag and Ebba Grön was the hot stuff in Sweden. Personally Stene wanted to play metal, but noone in the band could write such music. By the late 80’s, Stene was a singer in a Whitesnake cover band called Snakebite but eventually got bored and moved to the US. Over there he got in touch with country and americana. He got sold on that style of music which was totally new to him. During the 90’s he played with Per Enqvist in Mån Män, a band with its music style based on very straight forward lyrics in Swedish. “It was really fun to try it. It’s much easier for people to listen when you write in that way and in Swedish. But now I’m back to English again. A language I feel way more comfortable in”. You can hear a lot of country rock influences like John Hiatt, Steve Earle and The Band style on Stenes first album Better to take a stand produced in 2007 when he finally managed to find time to produce his debut album. “It’s awesome to be able to make a full album! Especially when you get to do it with people and musicians that you like so much”. “Better to Take a Stand” is quite broad and feels pretty timeless, but with a nice 70’s touch. You’ll find both Americana and early west coast in it, as well as influences from metal, rock and country. Stenes second album “Good Enough For Bad Times” that came out in 2012, points in a different direction. Stene wanted to make a soul album and even if it did not come out as classic soul it’s his interpretation of it. That’s how I came up with the title Good Enough For Bad Times. I think it’s good enough and it also reflects on the world situation at the moment. I really wanted to explore new music and a new style of writing. Influenced by several trips to New Oreleans you might spot some songs flirting with Memphis Soul, New Orleans Funk and Mardi Gras-music, A bit of Gospel and Blues as well as some up beat Soul. This album has been in the making for almost four years but the time spent on it is quite limited. Since the past decade Stene may be most known as one of the owners of the world famous Stockholm bar Akkurat that year after year rates among the top-10 in the world for its beer assortment (https://root.theworkpc.com/music/preview?img=http://www.ratebeer.com/places/top-rated/).
