TheAuthor
TheAuthor (18th June 1988) is an independant musician, dancer and artist who was born in Manchester, England. A trained IDTA ballroom dancer from the age of three, his taste branched out from mainstream pop music when he was given a Blondie greatest hits CD on his thirteenth birthday to which he alludes much of his early influences. TheAuthor began working on his debut album, 'Sound G', towards the end of July in 2011 and draws heavy reference to contemporary dance/synth music. Despite the mainstream structure of the album, many tracks include the use of instruments not usually associated with the electronic genre, such as the use of the Shamisen and electric koto on 'Pretty in Black' and the congo drums featured in 'Duel'. The instrumental piece 'Shikke' is composed entirely with samples of traditional Japanese instruments and is given an Asian theme as a result. 'Water' is composed from vocal samples and the dripping of a tap in an attempt to reinforce the themes of loneliness and darkness that run through the track. Lyrically, TheAuthor writes in a metaphorical, sometimes philosophical fashion. Many of his songs deal with the themes of death, conflict and emptiness. His work is often structurally similar to poetry or prose than a pop song, and often breaks from the norm in order to set out a particular narritive or storyline. He also makes use of glottal stops, rather than line breaks, in order to seperate lyrics from each other and to emphasise the themes behind the lyrics. He has also listed Lady GaGa, Ladytron, Nami Tamaki, Crystal Castles, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Knife amongst his other musical influences. Read more on Last.fm.
