Asiatica began in a garage in Compton, CA in 2017, with only two members - a drummer and a singer who played guitar. Founder Asia Lacy, a songwriter and vocalist, decided to upload one of her bedroom-written songs to Soundcloud, without expecting the overwhelming response that followed. Pitchfork and Pigeons and Planes were among the publications that gave Asiatica glowing reviews. Since then, the band has expanded to four members. Asia met Chailatay, a Grammy-winning drummer and producer, at a performance they both took part in. Impressed by Asia's music, Chailatay asked to join the band. With his vast experience working with well-known artists such as Intellexual, Tobi Lu, Chance the Rapper, Zack Villere, and Yellow days, Chailatay was an excellent addition to Asiatica. Chailatay was working with Stephan, a talented young pianist, who Asia knew from school. Upon hearing the sounds Stephan brought to their music, Asia was convinced he was the perfect fit for the band. The last member to join was Nigel Fregozo, a skilled bassist who had previously met Stephan playing in the beyond the bell jazz program. Steph suggested Nigel join Asiatica, and he proved to be a great addition to the band. Together, these talented musicians make up the exciting and dynamic band that is Asiatica.
