Hailing from Aalborg, Denmark, Leif Berg Jensen is the mind behind BrightLight. Beginning with his first release in 1997, he has released individual tracks and EP under this and other pseudonyms, on such labels as Karmarouge, Tic Tac Toe, and Mermaids In Space, to name a few. Leif's great passion for music was sparked in the earliest years of his life, when his father would lull him to sleep with the soothing melodies of such early new age artists as Jean Michel Jarré and Vangelis (naturally a big influence). In school, Leif found music class fairly boring, and was in the habit of making regular visits to the principal's office after his unscheduled drum solos. When he got his first computer, he began experimenting with making his own music, and joined a DJ class. His interest soon grew into a passion. After buying his first Atari (once the gold standard for computer-based music production), he realized he'd need a lot more equipment to get his studio up and running. At the time (1991), he was in school for graphic design, and spent a great deal of his time (and all of his money) buying records at the local record shop. It was at this shop that he met Claus Larsen (Leather Strip), whose record-buying advice was always sound (pun intended). In 1997, Leif signed his first release with a local record label -- a 12 called Feeling Weird. This melodic downtempo track made its way onto the classic Café del Mar series, and was eventually re-released on the Café del Mar 20th Anniversary compilation. Leif has always enjoyed experimenting with a wide variety of different styles of electronic music, from ambient and downtempo to house, techno, trance, and drum & bass. Although not content to restrict himself to a specific style, house music has always had a special place in his heart, and it shines through in many of his productions. A solid groove has always been his primary objective. It's the groove that makes your body rock. Keep your eyes and ears open for more to come from this talented artist on the rise.
