Caedmon
Caedmon (named after a seventh-century Anglo-Saxon poet-monk) is an acid/psychedelic folk band formed in 1973 in Edinburgh. They disbanded in Edinburgh in 1978 and reformed in 2008. Formed in 1973 by a trio of veterinary students attending Edinburgh University, the band expanded to a quartet the following year and embarked on a touring career. They appeared in Edinburgh Festival Fringe at The Netherbow Arts Centre in 1976 and 1977, and at the Greenbelt Festival in 1977. They performed on same bill as Water into Wine Band in 1977. Their eponymous debut album was released in 1978 with only 500 copies made (making it very collectable; a cd version was released in 1994 by Kissing Spell, with a live album following). The original vinyl album design was by Ken Patterson (it features gold print where green is on the later CD version). Sleeve notes by Sam and inner lyric sheet by Angela. They disbanded in Edinburgh in 1978. They reformed in 2008, and played concerts in Edinburgh in May 2010. Their album, A Chicken to Hug, was released on 1 December 2010 on Caedmonsreturn label. It features twelve songs written in 2009 that examine thirty years in the lives of the band members. Angela Naylor: vocals Simon Jaquet: guitar, mandolin. Jim Bisset: electric guitar. Ken Patterson: piano, cello. Sam Wilson: bass guitar Caedmon website: www.caedmonsreturn.com features band history and news about the album. Read more on Last.fm.
