Planet Rhythm 70
Born in Los Angeles, B. Gibbs was exposed to music at a very early age. Childhood ventures into the soul sounds of the era led him to a deep love for Motown and an addiction to free jazz. Gibbs thrust himself into music and was sucked into hip hop upon reaching adolescence. Hip hop music begat a desire to manipulate sound and use emerging technology to continue the tradition of improvisation laid down by the experimental visionaries of jazz. In the early 90's, Gibbs was part of a promotional unit which was instrumental in bringing the new sound westwards. Gibbs forms ties with a cluster of artists during his extensive Asian travels and live dates, he settles in Japan in 2001. Living in Tokyo, he begins to release music through the British Sheep label under the Gunjack moniker. Gunjack started the Deafmosaic record label in 2002 and has featured cutting edge techno artists Takaaki Itoh, Reeko, Supagrupa, Acid Circus and others. Gibbs moves to Madrid, Spain in 2004, working with a local record distributor and releasing hard-edge pounding techno. He plays events and festivals around Europe and is featured on the I Love Techno 2004 CD. His records are in the boxes of everyone from Jay Denham to Oscar Mulero to Jeff Mills. In 2006, he has relocated yet again to Mexico City to make music and launch the new Omerta Music Group label. He now produces music under the pseudonym Echo Park. Read more on Last.fm.
