Deconverting Days



At this time there are at least two artists sharing the name Heligan: 1) a Progressive Punk 3-Piece based in Perth, Australia; 2) a Singer-Songwriter from Bristol, UK. 1) Heligan are a 3-piece progressive punk band from Perth, Western Australia. Their debut single, Castaways, was independently released on July 16th, and was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Tone City Recording Studio by Sam Ford (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Birds of Tokyo, Pond). When life as he knew it was put on hold in early 2020, songwriter/singer/guitarist Miles Green locked himself in his home studio, channelling his energies to create the music he wanted to hear but no one seemed to be producing. Throwing all his influences into the melting-pot, the genesis of Heligan began to be formed. Once Josh Young (bass) and Sean McMurdo (drums) jumped on board and added their flavoursome spice to the mix, the band was born. Heligan describe themselves as ‘progressive punk’ as their sound brings together elements of punk, progressive, rock and metal influences. Their debut single Castaways leans more towards the Punk and Melodic Hardcore style of music. Heligan is named after ‘The Lost Gardens of Heligan’ in Cornwall, England, a place where Miles has strong childhood memories of wonder, mystery, and intrigue – feelings that he hopes are replicated in the band’s music.
