Feeding Time on Monkey Island

M.I.R.V. is a mid 90's Bay Area based concept band started by ex-Limbomaniacs guitarist Marc M.I.R.V Haggard. As an initial studio project he worked with Les Claypool , and fellow Limbomaniacs' Pete Scatturo and Tony house Chaba. Later live show members included Craig McFarland drummer Jeff Gomes and vocalist/guitarist Bryan Kehoe. According to their bio, the acronym could mean Mutant Industrial Rock Vaudeville, which would be an apt description of their live shows. The debut album was entitled The Cosmodrome and was a muic industry parable about a futuristic nightclub in which acts had to shave their faces off to perform. Their 1994 debut album was the first release on Les Claypool's Prawn Song record label & recorded at Claypool's From the Corn Studios in Northern California's Sonoma county. With a full time lineup established, the band took their dark sensibiliity into Bay Area club's routinely wowing audiences with Kehoe's oft operatic vocals. The followup discs were released on M.I.R.V's own Poison Eye label. 1996's discography entry was entitled Feeding Time on Monkey Island which had their live show hits Monkey Boy and Unabomber on it. Later in 2000 they self released Dancing Naked in a Mine Field. Kehoe left eventually to form a band called The Kehoe Nation with former Idiot Flesh drummer Wes Anderson, Haggard toured with Claypool's Primus for a period in the early 2000's. Both M.I.R.V and Kehoe Nation both reunited for one night and played together at Slim's in San Francisco in the spring of 2008. Read more on Last.fm.
