Lines Are Drawn Only By The Eye
5 piece slacker indie rock from Newcastle-upon-Tyne UK. Widely regarded by many in the North East of England as one of the most underrated bands in the history of the UK, a completely hidden gem of a group. They have been almost entirely ignored by the media since their debut sleeper indie hit single Lemonade and their first two albums Citrus Bitumen and Lintered which were well received. The band recorded two John Peel sessions at Maida Vale 11/3/1998 and 1/8/00* and made several TV appearances in England and Scotland. The band have fans and admirers all over the world and they have produced to date 5 of the most consistently superb indie-rock albums the UK has ever produced. Sounding like a low budget My Bloody Valentine with a more post-punk approach, or like a British Sonic Youth without the improvisation or random segues, they are unashamedly 'post' some of their favourite bands yet they continue to champion the insoucante style of their genre and fight for those who prefer music to be art rather than commerce. History: Started as a lo-fi 4-track solo project, a product of small town ennui in Chester-le-Street by Steve Robson (drummer in Pete Gofton's band Bone) in 1994 aside to the burgeoning Slampt! pun rock / riot grrl scene in Newcastle. Played their first show with Uresei Yatsura in Newcastle December 1996 with Pete Dale playing drums. Formed as a band in 1997 with the addition of Chris Lanigan (ex Razorblade Smile) and Phil Tyler (ex Lumpsucker / Meredith) on drums and guitar respectively as core members. Band members: Maria Fontana (2001 - present) vocals Steve Robson (1997 - present) vocals, guitar Phil Tyler (1997 - present) guitar James Atkinson (1998 - 2006, 2008 - present) bass Chris Lanigan (1997 - Present) drums Hannah Betts (1997 - 1998) vocals Annika Bosanquet (1998 - 2001) vocals Paul King (1997 - 1998) bass Cath Tyler (2006 - 2007) bass Discography: Lemonade / Alinear 7 (Ferric Mordant, UK) (1997) Starry Eyes 7 (Ferric Mordant) (1997, UK) Melter Twine / Waster I'm 7 (Orgasm Records, France) (1998) Citrus Bitumen CD (Ferric Mordant, UK) (1998) Run The Lights EP 7 (Ferric Mordant, UK) (1999) Lintered CD (Ferric Mordant, UK) (2000) These People / Chapter When 7(Stupid Cat, UK) (2000) Dialling Mitt / My Own El Nino 7 (Fortuna Pop!, UK) (2001) Lines Are Drawn Only By The Eye 2005 (Morgan Leah / Kittiridge, USA) Another Vista (Test Tones Volume 1.1, Tonevendor / Claire Records, USA) Mint Hand CD (Stupid Cat, UK / Kittiridge USA) (2004) You Are What I Love / Aspirin 7 (Beautiful Pigeon, UK) (2004) To The North!
