Life Ground Music
Kicking off his music career as vocalist and songwriter with the rock band Electric Glass Balloon in the early 90's, the band had a unique alternative sound in Japan, which fused rock and dance music. After 4 acclaimed albums, Eiji Sugiura decided to pull the plug on the band after he felt they were starting to run out of steam. He then visited Ibiza in the summer of 2000 for the first time, in what was to become his formal baptism into dance music. By the time he returned to Tokyo he knew exactly what music he wanted to create and what new direction he needed to devote himself to. Choosing his name from a dream he had of the Japanese God of Music who offered him the name Sugiurumn, he quickly recorded an album that melded in-your-face house music, irresistable hooks and a groovy funk. However, this time Sugiurumn was the producer, mixing up instrumental tracks with vocals tracks, drafting in a range of different vocalists. The success of the album in both Japan's rock and dance scene lead to more guest vocals on albums and high-profile remixes. To date he has remixed the artists Ayumi Hamasaki, Chemistry and Kick the Can Crew, all multi-multi-million sellers in Japan. Busy Djing, recording and remixing, by 2005 Sugiurumn had finished his 3rd album Our history is made in the night. The track hot plate was licensed and remixed by Italian techno/breaks DJ Santos and released in Europe. In Summer of 2005, Sugiurumn played the holy grail of summer festivals in Japan; Fuji Rock, Summersonic and Rock in Japan, and the reactions on the dancefloors was proof positive of the ability to get people up and dancing - even jaded rock crowds. A remix album, featuring mixes by Axwell, Steve Angello and Infusion was released in early 2006. His third DJ mix CD Live at Pacha Ibiza will be released in late August in Europe and Japan: a funky workout of dancefloor vibes. Read more on Last.fm.
