Mapzzz EP07
Swanifant sprouted from a tangled bunch of loops and improvised noise in Dylan’s garage in Santa Cruz the Summer of 2005. This mythical beast grew until it had consumed Ryan and Danny and two guys named Jon. Swanifant continued to chase the sound in living rooms and garages, sometimes as just one or two people, sometimes as more. The band played with mixtures of organic and synthesized sounds, buzzing and crackling alongside the braying of sea lions and cackling of drunk college students in the cool Santa Cruz night. When winter came to Santa Cruz, Swanifant flew to its ancestral breeding grounds in Oakland (and San Francisco), where it began to settle as a 3-or-4-piece monster: Dylan, Danny, JaMile (and his robots), and Ryan. Swanifant’s shapeshifting lineups have produced a handful of self-released tapes and CDs, and most recently the “Endless Skies” 7” EP in 2010. After exploring noisy folk terrain for much of its life, Swanifant discovered that it loves to dance, and has been combining cyborg grooves with squalls of interstellar guitar noise. The demo EP, “Moving Still,” emerged in 2011. Swanifant is incubating this egg in the hopes it will hatch into an album. The beast and its three or four human companions continue to chase the sound, and barbecue on Sundays. Read more on Last.fm.
