There are at least two bands called Themis 1.) Themis is an indie rock, noise rock band from Cologne and Stuttgart, Germany, founded in 2018. It is named after the singer and frontman Themis Theodoridis. Themis draws his listeners to the darker side of indie music. He perfectly combines gloom with a touch of bitter-sweetness, emotional longing and a huge portion of Queer-Power. After having released his very first EP The Glare and constantly playing at German clubs and festivals, his Album The Heavy Door provides a closer look into the exciting debut and may remind listeners of artists the likes of Placebo, PJ Harvey and The Smashing Pumpkins. On The Heavy Door Themis delves much deeper into the intoxicating mix of dark reverb-laden melodies, searing dirty riffs and noisy feedback chaos hinted at on songs like Eyeliner And Guitars, Swan or Your Rough Touch. Themis chose the dramatic setting of a lonely winter during the global pandemic to start writing the record and finished the writing and recording process in the home-studio of his guitar player/producer in a small town in Germany. Prepare to be charmed with magnetic live shows created by him and his band. Themis is a Gothic Rock Band that is home based in Aurora Ontario and well know throughout Toronto as a strong supporter of the Canadian Indie scene. It's nice to hear something you haven't heard before. Themis has a unique sound that is hard to pin down. Some of the guitar work is reminiscent of the trippy sounds of the 80s (like Celestial Stalker) yet in some songs, like those from the Schemata album (i.e.: Toward The Light), the guitar riffs are very progressive industrial metal from tomorrow. One write up on the band says: Here's a new Toronto band breaking new ground both in music and in spirit. Not your usual mythical, floating fantasy Goth band, Themis is a 'Wicca band'. Not witches but musical forest nymphs or maybe even gypsies, Themis members write noble stories promoting life in the arms of nature; the just care for nature's resources and beauty; and a soulful expression of earth's balance with mankind and nature.
