The Beggar's Butler



VENcE knows how to create a special atmosphere with their music. It tickles and brings you in a state of commotion. It’s pure, intense, has a lot of nerve; it is dynamic and sometimes even aggressive. The violin and cello drag you along, while the drums, as a sort of counter balance, pounds you in harness. Violin, cello and guitar are the foundation of the band, with the drums as their steady motor. In between floats an accordion, sometimes a piano and supplied with delicate vocals. The interplay in the band is remarkable. Every instrument serves the greater whole without getting lost in it. The lyrics, written by the singer, are cryptic. They tease your point of view about all possible things around you; but it's up to you to interpret their precise meaning and intentions. Associate! It is hard to describe their musical style. This beautifull album was recorded an produced by Erik Hulshof at Lobbes Studio. “The Beggar’s Butler” is distributed by Marista Records (MCD 7342) 1) VENcE is an alternative pop folk rock group formed in Groningen, the Netherlands in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Mariken Hoving on violin, Sebastiaan Wiering on cello, Lielian Tan on drums and Jos de Vries on guitar and lead vocals. VENcE released their first EP in 2006. By 2006, Laura Iwema joined the band as an accordeon player and pianist. With Iwema joined in, VENcE recorded their second EP: The Beggar's Butler. This EP was released in 2007.
