Ethanol
Violetic are a three piece alternative/post-punk band that formed in early 2013 in Bournemouth, UK before moving to London. The band was originally formed of Mitch Johns and Christina Lopez after meeting at a gig put on by Rory Dickinson in Bournemouth. At the time, Mitch and Christina were both playing in separate local bands. Soon after, Rory joined the band and together they wrote the blueprints to what would later become their first EP. In late 2013 they moved to London, where they currently reside. In December 2014, Violetic self-released their debut three track studio EP 'Ethanol' through their Bandcamp store and started playing their first London shows at the start of 2015, including opening for Man Without Country, Echo Lake and playing alongside Marriages for their first ever UK show. In November 2015, Violetic released a live session both as a Youtube video and as a free audio download through their Bandcamp site. The live session featured two new, unreleased songs 'Treese' and 'Bruiser' and was surrounded by the band opening for Ringo Deathstarr at London's Electrowerkz. 'Figure It Out', Violetic's most recent single was released in March 2016 with the band curating a release exhibition at London's Servant Jazz Quarters. The release exhibition incorporated collaborations with London installation artists, spoken word artists and live electronic music. Violetic's sound has predominantly been described as 'dark', 'melodic', 'anxious' and 'cinematic'. The compound use of many elements found in alternative music and in some electronic musical genres and subgenres have made their music 'hard-to-pinpoint' to one exact style. Through the heavy use of instrumental and vocal effects, synthesizer and drum sampling and the use of dynamic timbres within experimental songwriting methods, Violetic's music can be reached to a broad range of styles including experimental, progressive, alt-rock, post-punk, post-rock, art-punk, shoegaze, noise-rock and dream-pop. In September 2016, Violetic announced on their facebook page that the band had ended. Read more on Last.fm.
