European World Of Bluegrass 2007
The international band Waterflow (2005-2009) evolved out of the combination of two bands that spontaneously came together at the European World of Bluegrass (EWOB) in 2005. The group decided to keep working together on a tour basis and merged their bandnames to form Waterflow. The band played a very diverse set of acoustic music with aspects of bluegrass, jazz, swing and country and toured Europe for five years where it played at famous bluegrass festivals such as Bluegrassfest (SK), Dobrofest (CZ), EWOB (NL) and Picnic Festival (BE). Besides cover versions of pop and progressive bluegrass songs, the band played a lot of original material with music by Michal Barok and lyrics by Loes van Schaijk. After the first few golden years and the succesful debut album Perfect match for trouble, the band reached the point where it was impossible to continue getting together a few times a year for festivals the way it did. The band was demanding too much time and energy from its band members, which was taking its toll on the social and creative processes in the band, marking its official end. However, the musicians are still connected and get together about once a year in diverse musical projects. The first line-up of the band in 2005 consisted of the Slovak musicians of the band Flowline -Peter Balaz (guitar), Michal Barok (mandolin), Roman Sykora (double bass) and Richard Cifersky (banjo)- and the Dutch duo Waterfly -Mariska Petrovic (vocals, guitar) and Loes van Schaijk (vocals). They were soon joined by Slovak dobro player and sound engineer Peter Szabados. In 2006, Peter Balaz left the band to start a family. Shortly after, Mariska Petrovic left the band for the same reason. Loes van Schaijk took over lead vocals, and Slovak Lubos Jurkovic was called in for guitar and harmony vocals. This is the line-up that lasted the longest, and that is featured on the album Perfect match for trouble. In 2010, Waterflow gave a few reunion concerts in Holland and in Slovakia. In the same year, Waterflow and special guest Stanislav Paluch (violin) collaborated with Loes to record a few songs on the Lucy & the Man debut album Kaleidoscope Tales. Two of the songs on this album, Love can be and I haven't got all night, were originally intended for a second Waterflow album. Most of the band members are still involved in various projects: Loes van Schaijk - Lucy & the Man, The Dusty Record Singers, The Red Ribbons Michal Barok - Candyfloss Richard Cifersky - Fragment, Jonathan Maness & Cauldron Mountain, solo project Peter Szabados - solo project Lubos Jurkovic - Union City Grass Mariska Petrovic - Dolly I beg your Pardon, Mariska Petrovic & the Fat Bastards Peter Balaz - Flowline trio Roman Sykora - Various projects Read more on Last.fm.
