KYU is the name of four artists represented on Last.fm. Not to be confused with kyü. 1) Kyu (born Daniel Kim, Korean: Kim Dongkyu) is an American singer. He gained recognition as a contestant on the 2020 survival show I-LAND, where he competed under the stage name Daniel and became a finalist, though he did not make it into the debut lineup. Kyu began his K-pop training under YG Entertainment from 2018 to 2019. He later joined Belift Lab (2019–2020) and participated in I-LAND. After the show, he continued his training at Pledis Entertainment from 2021 to 2023. In 2025, Kyu officially debuted as a solo artist with the single “Tempo”, marking a new chapter in his career and introducing his new stage name. His debut showcased his artistic growth and versatility. 2) kyu, stylized as such, is an alias used by Kayou. for his lofi-style hip-hop producion. His other aliases include: 1. Kayou., being his main and most known, has a more varied style of production compared to his other aliases. 2. A phonk-alias by the name of MXRCVRY, created to host his phonk-inspired album State of the Art. 3. Kayou. Beats which now houses his more anime inspired hip-hop beats. 3) KYU is also a mathmetal band from Arnhem, The Netherlands. KYU [kie-joe] is derived from ‘kyu’ [kjoe], which is the Japanese word for grade/level/step, mainly used in the grading system of tradional Japanese fighting arts. It implies progression. KYU was founded in 2004 in the city of Arnhem, Holland, as four frustration-driven musicians united in their goal to provide their angry and disappointed views on, and experiences with, modern society with a fitting soundtrack. KYU’s musical style is mostly described as mathmetal since it has elements of mathcore, death metal and hardcore in it, all drenched in plenty of groove. Their music is driven by disappointment, rage, hate and frustration, blended together by a healthy dose of violence.
